Too busy week - result = sick

It really doesn't want to pass this year. Both Tom and I are feeling not too well, but the doctor said it's just a cold. Since a few of my colleagues at work are home with the Mexican flu I was a bit scared I could have it too. That's a week at home in bed... so I would rather have the cold any day, thank you!
Since both Tom and I were still really tired from last weekend... and winter hour here (the clock turned back an hour on Saturday night), we became exhausted after working a few days. Going to bed early didn't seem to help much. The pity was, that we had tickets for Michael Jackon's This is it movie. Tom really wanted to go and since they only play it for two weeks we didn't have much chance afterwards to go and see it.
So we went... it was a great, fascinating movie. I thought it especially fascinating to see how Michael Jackson worked and how the concert was going to be in the end. It would have been awesome, with lots of specials which I haven't seen in another show yet. Too bad he will never be able to finish it. But that is how legend is created, right?
On Friday I was feeling really really miserable. It started in the car on the road to work but stubborn as I am I didn't turn around and went to work. But I had to leave at noon because I really couldn't take it anymore. Everything in my body hurt, muscles, joints... and I didn't want to infect the others at the office. My boss didn't mind and I rode home and stayed on the couch until Tom got home and we both could go to the doctor's.
Normally we would go on a Halloween walk yesterday night with one of Tom's friends, but in our condition that was impossible. So we did go, but just for a drink afterwards. We stayed for only two hours but it was a lot of fun. :) Tom got the opportunity to talk to his friend about photography, since his friend is getting married next year. There might be a job in there for Tom.
Today we are going to a marathon of a tv series which is very popular here in Belgium. Only seven episodes were made. It's from 2pm till 9.30pm (with breaks in between of course). I think it'll be fun to watch it on the big screen.
We still have two more days of holidays after today, so we still have plenty of time to rest.
Hope you have a good Sunday and rest of the week!

Oh so very tired

I hope everyone has had a nice weekend. Mine was filled this time, not like the past weeks when it was quiet.
Tom was going to an 'I love Techno' party yesterday so I visited a friend of mine. I arrived at about eight o'clock, it's about an hour drive from where I live. They have two kittens of about three months old and boy, they're a hand full!
And those little claws can really hurt! But they're cute and so full of energy :) It's very nice to see how they're behaving together, the kittens are brother and sister. The boy already needed a small bit of surgery on his eyelid, since his sister had hooked in it with her claw. All is well now though.
It was about 1.30 am when I got home and I didn't sleep very well, since Tom wasn't home yet. I'm always a bit inquiet when he is gone for the entire night, you never know what happens on the roads. And he had more than an hour drive as well before he got home, and that at an hour close to morning. I know he is responsible, I just can't say the same for the other drivers. (Plus, in the news this morning was an accident on the very road where Tom needed to be, so it's not that I'm paranoid.)
Oh, this week I booked a small getaway at the end of November. Two nights in a small hotel in Luxembourg. They have a sauna and everything, so it will be a nice relaxing weekend. I already look forward to it. And next weekend is a long one, we have Monday and Tuesday as vacation (a replacement for All Saints).
Wednesday we're going to watch This is It at the theatre too... I wonder if it will be any good.
Well, on to the workweek after a good night's rest. Have a good one!

'Very' expensive weekend
Oct. 18th, 2009 | 05:22 pm
mood:
awake
As Tom said it, once in a while you have to pamper yourself. I have been searching for some new winter clothes for quite some time, but for one reason or the other, I never found them. Lack of time, lack of interest, something like that.
So yesterday we went out shopping and I bought a bit of everything, which made a very big hole in my wallet! The pampering is over for this month and probably the following month too.
But I have what I need and that is the most important, I guess.
What made the hole even bigger were the U2 tickets I could buy yesterday. I was so happy when I got the confirmation letter because it's been five years since I've seen them. They always come to Belgium on their tours, problem is that they always do world tours which takes them long before they get somewhere. I know some people think of U2 the most overrated band in history, but they're just... wow. Last time the sound was very bad, but I still loved the concert. And now I have tickets for in the middle, standing... it's going to be a great atmosphere, I just know it.
We were also searching for a table in our salon, but we haven't found the right one yet. Furniture shopping is so exhausting... but we have time.
Today I have made my first ever pumpkin soup :). Tom's mum gave a pumpkin to me last weekend, homegrown, so I decided to try and make it today. Almost all the vegetables in the soup are homegrown, except for the paprika... but that was only because the one at my dad's weren't ripe yet. I'm so lucky to not have to buy much vegetables, I always know where they came from.
The soup came out yummy.
Next week Tom is going to 'I love Techno' and I'm going to see a friend of mine. She has two young kittens since a few weeks and I'm very curious. They're obviously beyond cute :).
Have a good week everyone!

Headcold, yargh!
Oct. 10th, 2009 | 07:45 pm
mood:
sick
One sickness over, on the next. Probably because of the antibiotics I have entirely no resistance against germs et voila, there is the cold. I was okay for about a week. The cold is thankfully not as bad as the other infection but still, not very nice.
I had quite a busy week. My boss finally has decided to give me the job I was hired for in the first place... on top of all the rest that I do. So it's going to be tough to keep up, but for the moment I'm managing. And I'm happy that I'm finally getting to do some commercial stuff on top of the administrative. I'm on the road now sometimes as well, two days in the last two weeks. I love it! :)
We're trying to make a calm weekend of it, but of course that doesn't go entirely according to plan. We went to Ikea today, the store with all the solutions! We bought a few things that needed replacement, like a shower curtain, glass containers for the sugar and flower, and Tom bought a variety of photo frames to make our 'funny face wall' which he wanted to do since he moved in here. I'll try to make a picture of the pictures once they're all up.
The following weekends hopefully won't be very busy either, I really need my rest as I don't get much sleep at night because of the coughing and sneezing. I'm up today since 6.45am (on a Saturday!!!) On the plus side I'm keeping up with my reading.
I bought seven books at the bookfair last week and I've already read two of them. The third one is almost done and there are still a few very interesting ones to come.
And now it's on to the watching of the dvd... 's :) 17 Again, The other end of the line and Push. Hope everyone has a good Sunday!
PS: I'm going to post the next chapter of the story soon... hopefully tomorrow.

Feeling better & on the go
Oct. 4th, 2009 | 12:58 pm
mood:
tired
The illness is over, woohoo! Time to get busy again. Everything was planned beforehand, but next weekend we'll take it easy again, nothing planned... yet.
The weeks are really flying by... it's already october! It'll be 2010 before we blink. I already have stuff planned in the new year even, I'm going to Riverdance in February and to a concert of Mika in March. I've always wanted to go to Riverdance, but for some reason or other I never got there when they came to Belgium. It's their farewell tour now and I just had to go. And I'm going to Mika because I want to party!!!
We partied yesterday as well. We went to a Milk Inc concert, one of the best parties of the year here in Belgium. It's 17000 people going crazy. It was their 'Black Out' concert, which promised to be very special. We all got white gloves when we entered and on the ticket was asked to not wear any white clothing and if you could, go in all black.
There were black lights all over the place, which gave such an amazing effect with all the gloves on. I hope to get a picture of it. One of the singers took pictures from on stage of the crowd, saying it was going to be posted.
Right now I'm tired and about every muscle in my body hurts, but it was so worth it.
Today we're going to the 'Open Bedrijven dag'. That's one day over here when dozens of companies open their doors to the public and give guided tours, so that you can better understand what is going on behind those doors. My mum's work (Duracell batteries) was doing just that, but on invitation. So we're going and then have dinner at my parent's.
Hope you all have/had a good weekend and a good week!

Things not going too well
Sep. 25th, 2009 | 09:04 am
mood:
sick
The both of us are sick again. Second time for me this year, like every year. I keep hoping that it will improve and on some level it does. No real throat illness this time, so that is a bit of a relief. And I didn't have to stay home from work which at this moment is a BIG relief.
I'm on antibiotics again. I didn't want to, which the doctor understood because of my medical history, but the alternative doesn't work. So back on the pills and hopefully without side effects.
The only colleague I have sitting with me at the office right now is stressed because he has to do the work of four (2 on vacation, one on permanent assignment). My boss is on our case for things which don't get done, something we just can't pick up. I can't do the work of a calculator, I haven't studied the bloody material... ever! I wish I could help him, but I can't.
We got an ear full for a visit my colleague needed to do but couldn't because of work load. Apparently it was a big job (which you don't even win then, you can just give your prize). It seems that like on most jobs, they just don't want to understand that you're only human.
On top of that Tom is sleeping really badly. He got about two hours last night. That's partially my fault because of my snoring etc (nose is shut tight ugh) and I think mainly because of stress.
We made the decision to do absolutely nothing this weekend, but rest. Maybe, just maybe if Tom feels up to it, we go to a bookfair on Sunday. It's something I really want to go to and it's not far, but if Tom doesn't feel like going, we're staying home. Next weekend there is already a concert planned.
Sorry for the incoherent ramble... I hope you have a better weekend than I. -hugs-

Dinosaurs and all that
Sep. 11th, 2009 | 04:34 pm
mood:
relieved
The week has finally ended, woohoo!
I have a very busy weekend ahead, starting with tonight. A friend of mine is coming over with her husband and little girl, so that will be an eventful evening. I think it will take long before Kimberley goes to sleep in new surroundings. And at the same time Kim Clijsters and Yanina Wickmayer are playing the semi-finals at the US Open tournament...
Thankfully the friends are tennis fans as well so they won't mind the match being on tv while we talk.
Tomorrow we're going to 'Walking with Dinosaurs'.
I think it will be very interesting to say how these animals were 'for real'. The size of them and all. I'm not all that interested in dinosaurs but Tom is. The show is going to last two hours so I'm wondering what they are going to do to keep us busy.
And in the last on Sunday we're going to Tom's sister together with his parents for an afternoon. They live about an hour and a half drive from us, so we'll have to plan it.
Lots and lots to do... and only a four day work week ahead before I get a sauna day on Friday! (After an eye appointment, yuck.)
Have a nice weekend, everyone, and I'll report on the dinosaurs on Monday.

I went to... Camelot!
Sep. 6th, 2009 | 07:52 pm
mood:
happy
This weekend was Tom's surprise for me. He had been bugging me about it, but I stayed cool... and was thinking about what it could be, of course.
He told me in a few times that it would be outside and that it could get cold with the wind and all. So I was ehm... very curious. What can be outside, right? Not a soccer match or anything, because Tom doesn't like that either.
It became clear when we got there, after an hour's drive. We were going to a musical! Outside!
With a fantastic decor!
This is what we saw, the musical 'Camelot'. With a great deal of actors, a large tree which opened up to suck Merlin in, a castle with about three changes of decor hidden inside it. The stage itself was situated on the lake. There were horses, a carriage, sword fights... the clip above is in dutch, but you can guess what's happening. It was very beautiful... I loved it! And Tom was happy I loved it :)
I must say that sometimes I love being surprised lol.

In other news...

There wasn't all too much news this week.
The heating installation failed on its first week of installment, which sent Tom flying to the phone. Too bad it was too early for him to reach anybody at the store where we bought it from. It took him a whole day to get somebody to come over to our place to check on the device. It had something to do with the water pressure, apparently. Not impressed.
Someone from the factory is supposed to come over to set everything properly... guys who installed it couldn't do that. But they can't say when they are coming over. So I cancelled the appointment and I'm going to pick up the phone every time something is wrong with that damned thing. I'm already very disappointed in the installation... although I think it's the people who installed it.
This weekend nothing much was going on. I went to my parents and brought back a boat load of vegetables which I made into a vegetable soup. (Yummy!) We watched a few movies, including the very weird Donnie Darko and quite weird The Stepford Wives.
Yesterday was the annual party at Tom's work. I saw a lot of ex-colleagues back and it was fun that they hadn't forgotten about me. Pity that not everyone was there but I liked it anyway. You always try to get together with people outside of work but everyone is busy and it all fades. I'm in luck that Tom still works there so I still know what's going on over there and vice versa.
I hope everyone has a nice week... oh, and check out the first chapter of my story! :)

Great weather for a drink and we...

Went to see a movie! But to be honest we had drinks afterwards, so we didn't waste the beautiful evening.
We went to 'Inglourious Basterds' of Quentin Tarantino together with my cousin and her boyfriend. We hadn't seen each other in a long time and they wanted to go see the movie today, but we convinced them to go with us.
I was a bit uneasy about the movie, because it lasts two and a half hours. I'm not a big fan of Tarantino, but I have to say this movie is good. More than good, it's great. If you're not scared if seeing blood flying everywhere and men being scalped, you're going to be fine.
We had a nice time afterwards sitting outside. The weather is so nice here this summer, it's crazy. And it's still not finished, still a few times of +-30 degrees here. Today we're going to a birthday party which will hopefully be in the garden. Nothing but good times these days...
Oh, and I bought a fabulous coat yesterday! It's purple and pink and has huge buttons... and flowers stiched on the back in bright yellow and... well, I'm going to post a picture of it soon. It's for the fall, so I'm going to have to wait some time to wear it, but I love it!

Install a new heating system! Or letting it install, because I think we wouldn't have one for the entire year if I have to put it up myself. Tomorrow someone is coming by to install everything, will take about half a day (or that is what I hope).
At the last minute Tom got his boss on the phone to say he could stay home on Monday, so we're home together. Very fun, because usually that is not the case. Hopefully we can do a few fun things after the guy is gone.
I will have to grill the men about payment and such, because that is still not clear to me. And I need a paper which says I get some money back from taxes next year. It's fourty percent, so that is a lot of money... me wants it back!
Yesterday was my mum's birthday dinner. Barbecue with sunny weather and about 30 degrees. Very nice to sit outside in the shade. I eventually got her a coupon to have dinner together with my dad, they have 40 adresses they can choose from. Plans were immediately made to go to the sea for a weekend, so they were very happy with it :). I spent a whole evening searching on the internet for it, so I was happy too lol.
Tom is preparing a surprise for me for in september (3 years together, heh). It frustrates me a little that I don't know what it is, but I have a surprise for him as well, hehe. :) Not going to say in here, because he's watching lol. He'll see soon enough.
Oh, and it might interest you that I'm writing again! I'm not working on The Old World because I really don't know where to with it. Stupid, I know, but I'm out of ideas on that story. I'm not going to let it hang forever, but for the moment it's not going to work. So I'm going for something new, fantasy and J/C. :) I hope to put a first chapter up soon.

It's been two weeks since I posted something in here.
I tried, you know, I really tried, but I just couldn't bring myself to do so. The days were quiet at work (still are a little bit but the pace is picking up again) and I really didn't feel like sitting behind my computer (in front of... ehm... well) for the few hours I was at home and awake.
Nothing much has happened in those two weeks though so nobody has missed anything about my exciting life lol :).
We went to the sea on Saturday, to visit a friend of mine and her family. Their little girl is just seven months old and she is really adorable. She sits up alone already and there is nothing she loves more. So every time mum lays her down to sleep there is a concert you wouldn't believe until she sits up again. I played with her with a cookie jar. It makes a tune whenever you reach inside or throw a block inside of it. Somebody is going to be coocoo after a few dozen times of that song.
The day was lovely! The weather was very warm so we could go out with the little girl and have a nice walk. There was a market with old books and comics, dvd's which we walked over. It was very nice to see them again and have a laugh together. In about a month they're coming over to our apartment, that is going to be fun :)
Tom was really great with her as well... something tells me he's going to be a good dad when it comes to it. Only... he doesn't want kids. I set a sort of limit for myself to have children, but first we have to find a suitable house because the apartment is really too small. Who knows what can happen after that?
Next weekend it's my mum's birthday and I still don't know what present to get her. Another thing to think about, argh! And next Monday they're coming to install our new heating system (turns out I get about 40% back from our tax department because of 'saving rules', woohoo!).
Hope everyone has a nice week!

Little bit of everything

Forgot to post again in the last couple of days. I actually didn't feel like writing much so I postponed it a little but here I am.
Last week was great, we had a good time. I dumped half of my wardrobe for wellfare! I finally cleaned out my closet, literally then. Everything is now nice and folded in little heaps where I can find every shirt in an instant. I love it!
We also gave away some other things which were only taking up more space.
Our two days in Gent were fantastic, despite the weather. It was pouring rain when we got on our train in the morning, and it was still pouring when we got out in Gent. We were going to visit the Gravensteen (one of the best conserved castles in Europe and it's in the middle of the city) and while we were there it all cleared up!
We went to a small cabaret show... that is, until we were fed up with not being able to get a drink! Tom went to get our first at the bar while the girl in the café was bringing around drinks to everyone else. Finally some other people sat in our section and they didn't get drinks either... so in the pause we got out and went to the Polé Polé festival a little further on. During the Gentse Feesten you can't go anywhere in the city without hearing music of all kinds. Polé Polé is more 'world music', the band we heard played reggae.
Oh, and we went in little boats on the Leie, the river that flows through Gent. I even drank my very first Duvel! (That's beer... I hate beer... but it was free so I tried it. Was ok.)
I rested for the entire weekend. I even had the day to myself on Sunday because Tom was going to Tomorrowland, the biggest outdoor dancefestival in Belgium. I watched tons of movies lol... 'Mean Girls', 'Into the Wild', 'Beyond Borders', pieces of X-men 3 and 'Grease 2'... girl day for me :)
Hope everyone has a nice week!

Holiday shopping etc

Haha, a week of holidays is starting tomorrow! Actually yesterday but who is counting? :)
It's promising to be quiet holiday and that is how we like it these days! We've been running around for long enough now so that we can enjoy a few days at home.
Yesterday we went shopping for jeans, since Tom has gone through all of his. Holes in it that can't be repaired anymore and all of that. Since it's still sales period we scored a few lucky breaks, resulting in Tom getting three pairs of jeans and I two, with a nice belt. This was in preparation for the next big operation namely cleaning up our wardrobes! That will be for tomorrow and I expect to have a lot of room when that is over. It is very much needed, in those three years I lived here I haven't done away anything... we're giving it all to charity though.
Yesterday evening we visitid Tom's friends. They have announced that they are going to get married next year, so it was a very happy get together. V., the girlfriend, especially made home made pizza's for us and they were delicious. When we got home we watched the movie 'The Illusionist'... way too late before we went to bed.
Today we had visitors so we cleaned the appartment... still a lot of throwing away and cleaning to do in the next few days, but afterwards we have two days in Gent :). I booked one night in a hotel for a reduced fee and the Gentse Feesten are in progress. That's ten days of theatre, dance on every street corner so that's promising.
Hope everyone has a nice week!

Music Weekend

This weekend was all in the sign of music for me. I found out last week about Rock Zottegem, where Apocalyptica would play at night. So I took a day off (with a bit of nagging) and went together with Tom to the festival. We could only leave rather late since Tom had to work, but it was fine since Apo wasn't performing till 10 pm.
It took us about two hours to get there under normal circumstances and luckily there wasn't all too much traffic. We stopped at road restaurant to eat something, hoping we would be healthier than eating at the festival itself. Short stop and on we went, driving... well, alone actually since there wasn't any traffic around on the smaller roads. We were actually thinking that we were wrong. Large signs told differently!
We didn't even take long to find a parking spot and it wasn't a far walk towards the grounds. At our arrival the first band was already playing but we weren't really interested. Walked around a bit and drank something, we went into the tent for 'A Brand', a Belgian young rock group who were good. Apo was half an hour late due to the band before them... We were in about fourth row for the gig.
Hot and energetic they were! They were in such a good mood as well. Eicca and Perttu talked a lot in between songs and I'm not used to that from them. Perttu was talking about 'another band that made a black album and then a white album, well they made a purple album which had to be brown but the record company didn't want that... and we were crazy people from Belgium as well.' And Eicca told us to 'behave and shut up or they would play some classical shit (Hall of the Mountain King, the encore song). It was over much too soon!
To the cut for a few pics...

Yesterday we went to the first ever Madonna concert in Belgium... Well, never again!
We rode by bicycle there from my parent's house to avoid the madness of 65000 people going away at the same time.
It rained for periods, including a heavy shower during Paul Oakenfold's set. Madonna was 45 minutes late in starting because she wanted it to be dark for the lights to have a good effect.
We walked away in a bit over the half of her show, grabbing our bikes and going home.
Way too much money for something like this and we were disappointed.
Good thing we had Friday!!!

Rock Zottegem?

Hey, nothing too exciting happened to me this week. Except on Friday, when I found out Apocalyptica is coming to Belgium! Next Friday! So I was panicking a bit that I didn't find out sooner and how I was going to arrange everything, because of course I want to go.
I got tickets... not even that expensive at all... but it's on Friday, which means I have to take a day of vacation. Which I still need to get because I couldn't ask Friday. (Keeps fingers crossed for Monday) If I ask nicely I hope to get it.
Tom is coming with me! lol :D First time ever he goes with me to a concert so I hope he'll have a good enough time to repeat it afterwards. But he likes Apocalyptica, so I have good hopes.
Yesterday we went shopping... didn't buy that much except a new Wii tennis game and the dvd collection of 'Roar', first ever series where Heath Ledger has the lead role. I loved it when I was young and only 8 episodes were ever aired. I had seen them all and I'm so happy it's out on dvd now. It's a pity that always has to happen after the star of the series dies... they probably thought they couldn't make a sale otherwise.
The Wii game was something else. We got home and I unpacked it, to discover there was no game in the package!!!! So back in the car straight to the store. Apparently I wasn't the first that day and they gave me the game without any troubles. I gave them the advice to check the other boxes because I think in the next days they're going to get a lot of miffed customers.
Today mum and dad are coming over, my dad's birthday is tomorrow. I bought him a radio with USB connection :) I'm uploading a usbstick now with all of the songs he likes so that he doesn't run out. He's very curious and has grilled my mum the entire week lol.
And it's the big weekend here in town with carnival, shops open and all... fireworks tomorrow. So ehm... yeah, nothing exciting ever happens here lol :D
