Music Weekend

This weekend was all in the sign of music for me. I found out last week about Rock Zottegem, where Apocalyptica would play at night. So I took a day off (with a bit of nagging) and went together with Tom to the festival. We could only leave rather late since Tom had to work, but it was fine since Apo wasn't performing till 10 pm.
It took us about two hours to get there under normal circumstances and luckily there wasn't all too much traffic. We stopped at road restaurant to eat something, hoping we would be healthier than eating at the festival itself. Short stop and on we went, driving... well, alone actually since there wasn't any traffic around on the smaller roads. We were actually thinking that we were wrong. Large signs told differently!
We didn't even take long to find a parking spot and it wasn't a far walk towards the grounds. At our arrival the first band was already playing but we weren't really interested. Walked around a bit and drank something, we went into the tent for 'A Brand', a Belgian young rock group who were good. Apo was half an hour late due to the band before them... We were in about fourth row for the gig.
Hot and energetic they were! They were in such a good mood as well. Eicca and Perttu talked a lot in between songs and I'm not used to that from them. Perttu was talking about 'another band that made a black album and then a white album, well they made a purple album which had to be brown but the record company didn't want that... and we were crazy people from Belgium as well.' And Eicca told us to 'behave and shut up or they would play some classical shit (Hall of the Mountain King, the encore song). It was over much too soon!
To the cut for a few pics...

Yesterday we went to the first ever Madonna concert in Belgium... Well, never again!
We rode by bicycle there from my parent's house to avoid the madness of 65000 people going away at the same time.
It rained for periods, including a heavy shower during Paul Oakenfold's set. Madonna was 45 minutes late in starting because she wanted it to be dark for the lights to have a good effect.
We walked away in a bit over the half of her show, grabbing our bikes and going home.
Way too much money for something like this and we were disappointed.
Good thing we had Friday!!!

Rock Zottegem?

happy
Hey, nothing too exciting happened to me this week. Except on Friday, when I found out Apocalyptica is coming to Belgium! Next Friday! So I was panicking a bit that I didn't find out sooner and how I was going to arrange everything, because of course I want to go.
I got tickets... not even that expensive at all... but it's on Friday, which means I have to take a day of vacation. Which I still need to get because I couldn't ask Friday. (Keeps fingers crossed for Monday) If I ask nicely I hope to get it.
Tom is coming with me! lol :D First time ever he goes with me to a concert so I hope he'll have a good enough time to repeat it afterwards. But he likes Apocalyptica, so I have good hopes.
Yesterday we went shopping... didn't buy that much except a new Wii tennis game and the dvd collection of 'Roar', first ever series where Heath Ledger has the lead role. I loved it when I was young and only 8 episodes were ever aired. I had seen them all and I'm so happy it's out on dvd now. It's a pity that always has to happen after the star of the series dies... they probably thought they couldn't make a sale otherwise.
The Wii game was something else. We got home and I unpacked it, to discover there was no game in the package!!!! So back in the car straight to the store. Apparently I wasn't the first that day and they gave me the game without any troubles. I gave them the advice to check the other boxes because I think in the next days they're going to get a lot of miffed customers.
Today mum and dad are coming over, my dad's birthday is tomorrow. I bought him a radio with USB connection :) I'm uploading a usbstick now with all of the songs he likes so that he doesn't run out. He's very curious and has grilled my mum the entire week lol.
And it's the big weekend here in town with carnival, shops open and all... fireworks tomorrow. So ehm... yeah, nothing exciting ever happens here lol :D

Amusement parks
Jun. 28th, 2009 | 07:07 pm

tired
It was about 5 to 10 years ago that I went to one. We got a 'present' from our telephone company for their client day. The entrance fee for the park is normally over 30 euro's for one person and we only had to pay 12, plus parking was free. On top of that, which was one of the reasons why we wanted to go, it was very closeby for us.
Tom has had a few health issues last week, teeth and throat were playing up. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to go because he wouldn't be up for it. The antibiotics in his system wre doing their job, but in the mean time you mostly feel bad because of them as well. I bought icecream, made chocolate and bought yoghurt, so that he wouldn't hurt so much eating.
His tootache was gone by Friday, but then his throat played up. He managed to go with me to the amusement park and we ended up having a great time. The weather was very nice and of course there were a whole lot of people, but the waiting for the rides was okay. Half an hour or so, it was doable.
We had a lot of fun, ate greasy yummy food and went on a lot of rides. A few with water where we got wet which was nice in the sun, the ferrace wheel, roller coasters, the whole lot. Since it was the client day of the telephone company, the park was open until 10 pm. We finally went home at 8.30 pm, with a goodie bag :)
We'll definitely do it again!
Today we went to my parents for a barbecue. Since we don't have a balcony ourselves it's nice to be able to sit outside once in a while. We got a lot of vegetables (homegrown) to put in our freezer. So I spent the last two hours with cleaning and cutting up vegetables... and now I'm resting up for the coming week.

The 'picking up the mess' week
Jun. 20th, 2009 | 08:40 am

happy
I started work again this week after two weeks of holliday. I almost regretted going away because Monday was a disaster to find anything on my desk. Paper strewn all around, I'm sure they did it on purpose so that I never leave again. Though luck, going anyway.
Apparently a lot of things happened in those two weeks as well. They guy that was replacing my colleague for her pregancy leave has left, he is going to Turkey for the whole summer to entertain tourist at a holiday resort. They're not going to take him back again after three months, so that was a bit of a bust. Then I found out my colleague herself isn't coming back!!
She only wanted to come back on a half time base, but my boss didn't want to go for that, so she is staying home and looking for something else. The conclusion in all this is that with the ongoing crisis they're not going to employ anyone else to fill the position. So lucky me, I get to pick up everything from her job as well. It is going to be hell the coming weeks.
On the positive side our company is getting more orders, so we might be going out the year on a quite positive note. Which is veeeeery good for the employees! I hope so, because although it's hard work, I like working there. I'm finally getting used to it a bit and I get to do more fun stuff. Taking files to customers and going to info sessions: all in all I get out more and I love it! :)
Today the bf and I are going to look for a new heating system. Ours is botched since a few months and now that it is summer it's the time to look out for something. Could be a cost of 4000/5000 euros, which sucks :( But hot water is important as well.
Last night we went out for a drink with one of my ex-colleagues (and my bf colleague) and his wife. It was nice to talk to him again, since I hear he still asks news of me once in a while and they don't live far. We should do that more, but it's always the same thing... find the time.
Busy weekend ahead, so I say byebye!

Back from Rhodes already...
Jun. 14th, 2009 | 10:33 am
mood:
grumpy
I got a nudge from Zoolady telling me I should make a post already -laughs- so here I am :).
She is right as well, it's been more than four weeks! I really didn't have the time in preparation of our trip. I had to work until the last day before we left (at night), so I was panicking a bit that I wouldn't get done in time. But it worked and at the moment it is over already.
We had a very nice holiday, with beautiful weather. It was getting a bit too hot in the end even, with temperatures of about 38°. If you're used to Belgian weather that is a bit too much, but the wind took the heat down. My mum and dad were with us this year and they had a great time too, so great even that my mum already wants to go to Kos next year because I advertised it so much to them ;).
We stayed in a lovely hotel, with about a 1000 rooms... which you didn't really notice because they were separated into all smaller buildings. Tom and I stayed in the main building, right next to the pool, we could almost dive in from our room! Of course we didn't spend much time there, but we managed a few afternoons at one of the three pools. Other days we found beaches in the areas we visited.
I got a few pictures uploaded but it takes quite long, so the rest will be up shortly.
The misery started when we got back. We still had about a week of holidays but it rained the whole time here! We didn't get to do much fun stuff :( We eventually decided to catch up on our movies and went to see 'Wolverine' and 'Star Trek'.
Liked both movies, but I'm not a SF fan...
Yesterday we went to a party for two of my cousins who celebrated their holy communion. The liberal version of it anyway, I don't know how it is called. Fun time spending time with the whole family again, I hadn't seen most of my cousins in about a year. And today we have to go to a barbecue at Tom's parents house, but it is raining again!!!
Stupid weather.
Work tomorrow, wish me luck. (The mess on my desk, argh!)

Healthy time!

Wow, I haven't been here in a few days so it seems.
The weather was far too nice to stay inside, I must admit... and I have far too much to do during the week. :( Not all bad, of course!
This weekend I bought myself a new bike, haha. Not a very expensive one, but it's better than the old one I had here. Since May 1st we have a garage to put one car and our bikes in, so it was time to buy another one. And on Sunday we tested it immediately... with a far too far ride through nearby towns.
We got sunburned and we were dead tired in the afternoon, but a large ice cream made up for it :)
Today we went swimming, third week in a row!
We are eating healthy, I'm into kine therapy again for my shoulder. Just to keep it supple, not because I'm in pain. All in all, we are soooo healthy at the moment lol :D
A little less than three weeks and we're in Rhodos!!!

Bokrijk 2009
May. 3rd, 2009 | 01:06 pm
mood:
cheerful
A few weeks ago we went to Bokrijk, a park where old cottages are restored to their former glory. It's a way of learning of the past in a nice way and in full nature. The weather was lovely and Tom brough his camera.

They're owners of the cottages who are 'actors' who play a character from about 150 years ago. They farm the patch of land they have in the park and make sure their house is tidy for the visitors. At the end of the day they go home just like everyone else.

There are ponds, lots of green and trees, it's a lovely walk. When the weather is so nice you just don't want to go home!

In the 'Strange Forest' you could find a lot of artifacts made of natural materials. And it was an opportunity to use them to get a picture of the both of us.

-sighs- Sick!
Apr. 20th, 2009 | 10:24 am
It's the Easter period and I'm sick for the third year in a row. I don't know how I do it, but I manage to get sick every bloody time. This year I thought I had escaped it but last week it started.
Tonsel infection. Nothing bad, I missed one day at work and everything would be alright after the weekend.
Guess again!
I had the same allergic reaction to the antibiotics as about a year ago. Bloated and swollen face, redness all over my body, which itches like hell. I feel like Godzilla, the red variant. I went back to the doctor today, got something for the itchiness and to reduce the swelling. My initial infection isn't gone yet either, so I have a spray now.
I don't like being sick and in these times of crisis certainly not. Normally I won't be replaced very quickly at my office but you never know, you know. Thank goodness my boss is an understanding person plus they know that it has to be bad before I stay home.
Hopefully some happier news next time.

Online shopping, grrr!
Mar. 29th, 2009 | 12:24 pm

A few weeks ago I bought the Wii game Clone Wars for Tom's birthday, through an online shopping channel. A Belgian one, so the transfer was not even overseas or anything. It would take 7-12 workdays before it would arrive at home, wrapped and all.
After ten workdays I had heard nothing from the shop (I should have gotten an e-mail with the sent message) and something was wrong with the account I made, so I couldn't even check what was going on with my order!
Contacted the help centre there and they replied to me that they were out of stock! After two weeks they tell me that! I was far from happy at that point... Tom already knew what I was getting him, but his birthday is in the beginning of april and I don't want to give my present somewhere in May or June! So I decided to search a few shops together with Tom yesterday. We found the game for the same price as I ordered it online. Today I made the annulation of the order... now I will wait and see if I get my money back.
If I don't, someone is going to get very very angry! Grrrr. :p
Our heating system is botched up too -sighs-. Well, it's just worn down.. it's more than fifteen years old and on his last legs. So we have to begin to think about installing a new one... Which is going to costs us somewhere between 4000-5000 euros. So not happy about that one either!
Two more months before our holiday... I'm going to need it!

Firstly: People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.
Secondly: Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.
It's not refusing that I'm doing, I just don't feel like going through the whole tagging process. Please feel free to do this quiz if you want to!
O1. Make a list of 5 things you can see:
1. Iron rose
2. Cell phone
3. Wallet
4. PC
5. Bill
O2. Would you ever get plastic surgery?
If you're a fire victim or something of the like, it is necessary, so I would surely do that. Otherwise, I don't think so.
O3. If you were acting in a movie who would you rather play, the hero or the villain?
The villain, of course! Nothing so fun as being the bad guy... or girl.
O4. What's your occupation?
Assistant International Projects at an asbestos removal company.
O5. Do you nap a lot?
No. Just once in a while when I'm really beat.
O6. What was your first car?
A panther black Ford Fiesta.
O7. What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
For the moment nothing anymore... I'm totally out of the fandom thingy. Maybe when work gets less hectic I feel like going into one again. I like 'Heroes' though, so maybe something is developing there.
O8. What was the last thing you ate today?
Soup.
O9. What was the last text message you received?
From Elliz, a friend from Malasia, that she couldn't come online.
1O. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
Facebook, LJ, of a newspaper.
11. What was the last thing you bought?
A garlic pincher.
12. What are you listening to right now?
I Hate You Now from Sylver.
13. If you could pick another name for you, what would it be?
Mieke.
14. What is your zodiac sign?
Sagittarius.
15. What is your favorite weather, and why?
Summer, sunny! It just does wonders for my mood and energy. I feel it today even because the sun is shining. Totally hyper :)
16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
-grins- Cello.
17. Do you have any siblings?
No.
18. What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
I'm fine here in the silence, thank you.
19. What are your plans for next weekend?
This weekend we're going to a concert and my parents are coming over. Next weekend we're going to Tom's parents for dinner and maybe go see a movie.
2O. Say something to the person who tagged you:
You're a great positive person, who likes way too many languages and doesn't talk enough with me! :p

Heroes marathon

mood:
okay
The first thing we did for ourselves this weekend is the Heroes marathon. We thought that we wouldn't be busy this weekend but... we were wrong.
Although it was okay! I'm not complaining :) Friday I went to the goodbye party from our director. I felt obligated to go because even though I haven't worked there long, I worked partially for him and he was glad I had come. My colleagues and I talked a bit ,for the first time about something different than work. I learned there that they really appreciate me and what I do in the company, most even think I can do much more. We'll see where that goes.
Yesterday Tom and I cleaned the place up a little (Tom did a great deal already on Friday.), we went shopping for today and in the evening we went to 'The Reader'. I didn't want to go to that movie at first, but eventually I was glad I did. It's a beautiful movie.
Today Tom's sister is coming over with her boyfriend, we're going to have dinner together. Nothing too spectacular but it's a chance to meet up again.

What a weekend...

tired
I finally found some time to type something up on here. First of all I want to apologise for the people who are waiting for an update on 'The New World'. It will take some time before it will be ready... I lack the time on weekdays and on weekends these days.
'Edward Scissorhands' last week was really beautiful. We had seats on the second row and for a dance show that was fantastic. It wasn't as dark as the movie, with lots of humour in it, but with great costumes and decors. They didn't follow the whole of the story, but some of the small scenes were exact.
This weekend was even more busy than the week before. Saturday we went to the shops, washed the cars and had to go to a birthday party in the evening. I got my friend 'bone chilling' ice cubes :) Ice cube shapes in the form of bones and skulls, something really for her and she was very happy with it. We played some pool but we had to get home early because...
The day after we had to go to a sort of benefit dinner for the soccer team of Tom's friend Stijn. In the afternoon we had to go to the baby shower of my friend where Tom had to take pictures. I'll post some when Tom loads them up on the computer. A lot of kids were in the room and they were all so cute! As long as they go home to their parents afterwards ;).
So yeah, busy weekend.. next weekend will be less, I hope. Tom's sister is coming over with her boyfriend to have dinner on Sunday, but we don't have to put much work into it.
Hope everyone has a nice week!

Great Valentine's day, great weekend, but over way too soon...
Feb. 16th, 2009 | 04:18 pm
mood:
busy
That's why I want five day weekends and two day weeks. Who is with me! :-D
My weekends are more filled than my weeks anyway. In the next few weekends it's packing busy for me. Oh yeah, our sauna last Monday was amazing as well. I had never done a razul before (that really is playing with clay of the Dead Sea) but your skin is really smooth afterwards. I was utterly relaxed afterwards... of course that only lasted until about Wednesday when the stress of work got to me again. :(
We went for a special Valentin's menu on Saturday, which was absolutely lovely and I had wayyyy too much to eat. So much for all the sexiness afterwards lol ;). On Sunday it was on to the parents and back home... ate way too much again, why does everything have to taste so damn good?
Next weekend we're going to Edward Scissorhands as a ballet, so I wonder what that'll be like and to dinner with my parents. Weekend after that to a birthday party, a benefit dinner and a sort of baby shower... something for every weekend.
For Tom's birthday we're going to an 'I love the 90's' party, with music that is so wrong that it is just right to party your ass off. So that's what I'm gonna do then. I just hope I get some time to rest somewhere in between.
Have a good week everyone!

Alex, Kimberley and... Madonna!

bouncy
We went to see Alex Agnew on Friday, he is one of Flanders best stand up comedians and for us totally hilarious. It was his third show and we went for the third time in a row, it was only a 15 mins drive for us. Two hours full of comedy, Tom almost couldn't breathe anymore at the end, he was laughing so hard. :)
Yesterday we were visiting with a friends of mine, who got their girl from December 26, Kimberley. She is very beautiful, with a full head of hair and from what the mum told us, enormous hand and feet lol. She was sleeping in her crib when we were there, very quiet, but they had a lot of trouble with her beforehand. Now everything is going well however and their baby shower is coming up on March 1. We got some information on Rhodos while we were there, because they had been there two times and loved it :).
We got up very early yesterday as well, for the start of the ticket sale for Madonna. She's coming to Belgium in July, the first time ever. We called, surfed etc for an hour and we got in eventually. Today Tom found out that we accidentally have four tickets in stead of two, because we tried so many times to order them. Oh well, we'll get them sold, I'm sure.
And on to tomorrow and the sauna! Have a good week everyone!

Times are a changing

And that especially at work... one of my big bosses is quitting. It was really strange on Thursdday, when they told us all that he was going to leave. He was just sitting there and when someone spoke of thanks, he bursted into tears.
It is difficult to know for sure, but rumours are already spreading through the company that his resignation wasn't of his own making. He probably wanted to honourably resign before they could fire him, but the day of his resignation he was already speaking to our competition.
Since he was boss of our commercial department, I was one of his direct assistants and we are all a bit searching for how it is going to be from now on. He is going to be there for another month, but of course he can't take any decisions anymore. It'll be hard in the next few months... but my direct boss of international projects likes my ideas. Next Wednesday my trial period will be over and I have a steady contract :). In these times of crisis that is something major.
At home everything is going great... busy times are ahead, with in February a lot of dates which are already occupied. We start off with a stand up comedian on Friday, then a visit to my friend with her new baby and the following Monday a sauna visit with Razul treatment! :D Relaxing!
But now there is first another few days of work ahead to get through. I hope everyone had a nice weekend and has a good week!
