Too busy week - result = sick

Nov. 1st, 2009 | 12:38 pm
mood: okay okay

It really doesn't want to pass this year. Both Tom and I are feeling not too well, but the doctor said it's just a cold. Since a few of my colleagues at work are home with the Mexican flu I was a bit scared I could have it too. That's a week at home in bed... so I would rather have the cold any day, thank you!

Since both Tom and I were still really tired from last weekend... and winter hour here (the clock turned back an hour on Saturday night), we became exhausted after working a few days. Going to bed early didn't seem to help much. The pity was, that we had tickets for Michael Jackon's This is it movie. Tom really wanted to go and since they only play it for two weeks we didn't have much chance afterwards to go and see it.

So we went... it was a great, fascinating movie. I thought it especially fascinating to see how Michael Jackson worked and how the concert was going to be in the end. It would have been awesome, with lots of specials which I haven't seen in another show yet. Too bad he will never be able to finish it. But that is how legend is created, right?

On Friday I was feeling really really miserable. It started in the car on the road to work but stubborn as I am I didn't turn around and went to work. But I had to leave at noon because I really couldn't take it anymore. Everything in my body hurt, muscles, joints... and I didn't want to infect the others at the office. My boss didn't mind and I rode home and stayed on the couch until Tom got home and we both could go to the doctor's.

Normally we would go on a Halloween walk yesterday night with one of Tom's friends, but in our condition that was impossible. So we did go, but just for a drink afterwards. We stayed for only two hours but it was a lot of fun. :) Tom got the opportunity to talk to his friend about photography, since his friend is getting married next year. There might be a job in there for Tom.

Today we are going to a marathon of a tv series which is very popular here in Belgium. Only seven episodes were made. It's from 2pm till 9.30pm (with breaks in between of course). I think it'll be fun to watch it on the big screen.

We still have two more days of holidays after today, so we still have plenty of time to rest.

Hope you have a good Sunday and rest of the week!

'Very' expensive weekend

Oct. 18th, 2009 | 05:22 pm
mood: awake awake

As Tom said it, once in a while you have to pamper yourself. I have been searching for some new winter clothes for quite some time, but for one reason or the other, I never found them. Lack of time, lack of interest, something like that.
So yesterday we went out shopping and I bought a bit of everything, which made a very big hole in my wallet! The pampering is over for this month and probably the following month too.

But I have what I need and that is the most important, I guess.

What made the hole even bigger were the U2 tickets I could buy yesterday. I was so happy when I got the confirmation letter because it's been five years since I've seen them. They always come to Belgium on their tours, problem is that they always do world tours which takes them long before they get somewhere. I know some people think of U2 the most overrated band in history, but they're just... wow. Last time the sound was very bad, but I still loved the concert. And now I have tickets for in the middle, standing... it's going to be a great atmosphere, I just know it.

We were also searching for a table in our salon, but we haven't found the right one yet. Furniture shopping is so exhausting... but we have time.

Today I have made my first ever pumpkin soup :). Tom's mum gave a pumpkin to me last weekend, homegrown, so I decided to try and make it today. Almost all the vegetables in the soup are homegrown, except for the paprika... but that was only because the one at my dad's weren't ripe yet. I'm so lucky to not have to buy much vegetables, I always know where they came from.
The soup came out yummy.

Next week Tom is going to 'I love Techno' and I'm going to see a friend of mine. She has two young kittens since a few weeks and I'm very curious. They're obviously beyond cute :).

Have a good week everyone!

Headcold, yargh!

Oct. 10th, 2009 | 07:45 pm
mood: sick sick

One sickness over, on the next. Probably because of the antibiotics I have entirely no resistance against germs et voila, there is the cold. I was okay for about a week. The cold is thankfully not as bad as the other infection but still, not very nice.

I had quite a busy week. My boss finally has decided to give me the job I was hired for in the first place... on top of all the rest that I do. So it's going to be tough to keep up, but for the moment I'm managing. And I'm happy that I'm finally getting to do some commercial stuff on top of the administrative. I'm on the road now sometimes as well, two days in the last two weeks. I love it! :)

We're trying to make a calm weekend of it, but of course that doesn't go entirely according to plan. We went to Ikea today, the store with all the solutions! We bought a few things that needed replacement, like a shower curtain, glass containers for the sugar and flower, and Tom bought a variety of photo frames to make our 'funny face wall' which he wanted to do since he moved in here. I'll try to make a picture of the pictures once they're all up.

The following weekends hopefully won't be very busy either, I really need my rest as I don't get much sleep at night because of the coughing and sneezing. I'm up today since 6.45am (on a Saturday!!!) On the plus side I'm keeping up with my reading.

I bought seven books at the bookfair last week and I've already read two of them. The third one is almost done and there are still a few very interesting ones to come.

And now it's on to the watching of the dvd... 's :) 17 Again, The other end of the line and Push. Hope everyone has a good Sunday!

PS: I'm going to post the next chapter of the story soon... hopefully tomorrow.

Feeling better & on the go

Oct. 4th, 2009 | 12:58 pm
mood: tired tired

The illness is over, woohoo! Time to get busy again. Everything was planned beforehand, but next weekend we'll take it easy again, nothing planned... yet.

The weeks are really flying by... it's already october! It'll be 2010 before we blink. I already have stuff planned in the new year even, I'm going to Riverdance in February and to a concert of Mika in March. I've always wanted to go to Riverdance, but for some reason or other I never got there when they came to Belgium. It's their farewell tour now and I just had to go. And I'm going to Mika because I want to party!!!

We partied yesterday as well. We went to a Milk Inc concert, one of the best parties of the year here in Belgium. It's 17000 people going crazy. It was their 'Black Out' concert, which promised to be very special. We all got white gloves when we entered and on the ticket was asked to not wear any white clothing and if you could, go in all black.
There were black lights all over the place, which gave such an amazing effect with all the gloves on. I hope to get a picture of it. One of the singers took pictures from on stage of the crowd, saying it was going to be posted.

Right now I'm tired and about every muscle in my body hurts, but it was so worth it.

Today we're going to the 'Open Bedrijven dag'. That's one day over here when dozens of companies open their doors to the public and give guided tours, so that you can better understand what is going on behind those doors. My mum's work (Duracell batteries) was doing just that, but on invitation. So we're going and then have dinner at my parent's.

Hope you all have/had a good weekend and a good week!

Dinosaurs and all that

Sep. 11th, 2009 | 04:34 pm
mood: relieved relieved

The week has finally ended, woohoo!

I have a very busy weekend ahead, starting with tonight. A friend of mine is coming over with her husband and little girl, so that will be an eventful evening. I think it will take long before Kimberley goes to sleep in new surroundings. And at the same time Kim Clijsters and Yanina Wickmayer are playing the semi-finals at the US Open tournament...
Thankfully the friends are tennis fans as well so they won't mind the match being on tv while we talk.

Tomorrow we're going to 'Walking with Dinosaurs'.

I think it will be very interesting to say how these animals were 'for real'. The size of them and all. I'm not all that interested in dinosaurs but Tom is. The show is going to last two hours so I'm wondering what they are going to do to keep us busy.

And in the last on Sunday we're going to Tom's sister together with his parents for an afternoon. They live about an hour and a half drive from us, so we'll have to plan it.

Lots and lots to do... and only a four day work week ahead before I get a sauna day on Friday! (After an eye appointment, yuck.)
Have a nice weekend, everyone, and I'll report on the dinosaurs on Monday.

In other news...

Aug. 31st, 2009 | 08:16 am
mood: tired tired

There wasn't all too much news this week.

The heating installation failed on its first week of installment, which sent Tom flying to the phone. Too bad it was too early for him to reach anybody at the store where we bought it from. It took him a whole day to get somebody to come over to our place to check on the device. It had something to do with the water pressure, apparently. Not impressed.

Someone from the factory is supposed to come over to set everything properly... guys who installed it couldn't do that. But they can't say when they are coming over. So I cancelled the appointment and I'm going to pick up the phone every time something is wrong with that damned thing. I'm already very disappointed in the installation... although I think it's the people who installed it.

This weekend nothing much was going on. I went to my parents and brought back a boat load of vegetables which I made into a vegetable soup. (Yummy!) We watched a few movies, including the very weird Donnie Darko and quite weird The Stepford Wives.

Yesterday was the annual party at Tom's work. I saw a lot of ex-colleagues back and it was fun that they hadn't forgotten about me. Pity that not everyone was there but I liked it anyway. You always try to get together with people outside of work but everyone is busy and it all fades. I'm in luck that Tom still works there so I still know what's going on over there and vice versa.

I hope everyone has a nice week... oh, and check out the first chapter of my story! :)

Great weather for a drink and we...

Aug. 23rd, 2009 | 01:54 pm
mood: happy happy

Went to see a movie! But to be honest we had drinks afterwards, so we didn't waste the beautiful evening.

We went to 'Inglourious Basterds' of Quentin Tarantino together with my cousin and her boyfriend. We hadn't seen each other in a long time and they wanted to go see the movie today, but we convinced them to go with us.
I was a bit uneasy about the movie, because it lasts two and a half hours. I'm not a big fan of Tarantino, but I have to say this movie is good. More than good, it's great. If you're not scared if seeing blood flying everywhere and men being scalped, you're going to be fine.

We had a nice time afterwards sitting outside. The weather is so nice here this summer, it's crazy. And it's still not finished, still a few times of +-30 degrees here. Today we're going to a birthday party which will hopefully be in the garden. Nothing but good times these days...

Oh, and I bought a fabulous coat yesterday! It's purple and pink and has huge buttons... and flowers stiched on the back in bright yellow and... well, I'm going to post a picture of it soon. It's for the fall, so I'm going to have to wait some time to wear it, but I love it!

Long weekend! So time to...

Aug. 16th, 2009 | 11:37 am
mood: happy happy

Install a new heating system! Or letting it install, because I think we wouldn't have one for the entire year if I have to put it up myself. Tomorrow someone is coming by to install everything, will take about half a day (or that is what I hope).
At the last minute Tom got his boss on the phone to say he could stay home on Monday, so we're home together. Very fun, because usually that is not the case. Hopefully we can do a few fun things after the guy is gone.

I will have to grill the men about payment and such, because that is still not clear to me. And I need a paper which says I get some money back from taxes next year. It's fourty percent, so that is a lot of money... me wants it back!

Yesterday was my mum's birthday dinner. Barbecue with sunny weather and about 30 degrees. Very nice to sit outside in the shade. I eventually got her a coupon to have dinner together with my dad, they have 40 adresses they can choose from. Plans were immediately made to go to the sea for a weekend, so they were very happy with it :). I spent a whole evening searching on the internet for it, so I was happy too lol.

Tom is preparing a surprise for me for in september (3 years together, heh). It frustrates me a little that I don't know what it is, but I have a surprise for him as well, hehe. :) Not going to say in here, because he's watching lol. He'll see soon enough.

Oh, and it might interest you that I'm writing again! I'm not working on The Old World because I really don't know where to with it. Stupid, I know, but I'm out of ideas on that story. I'm not going to let it hang forever, but for the moment it's not going to work. So I'm going for something new, fantasy and J/C. :) I hope to put a first chapter up soon.

Little bit of everything

Jul. 29th, 2009 | 09:09 am
mood: tired tired

Forgot to post again in the last couple of days. I actually didn't feel like writing much so I postponed it a little but here I am.

Last week was great, we had a good time. I dumped half of my wardrobe for wellfare! I finally cleaned out my closet, literally then. Everything is now nice and folded in little heaps where I can find every shirt in an instant. I love it!
We also gave away some other things which were only taking up more space.

Our two days in Gent were fantastic, despite the weather. It was pouring rain when we got on our train in the morning, and it was still pouring when we got out in Gent. We were going to visit the Gravensteen (one of the best conserved castles in Europe and it's in the middle of the city) and while we were there it all cleared up!

We went to a small cabaret show... that is, until we were fed up with not being able to get a drink! Tom went to get our first at the bar while the girl in the café was bringing around drinks to everyone else. Finally some other people sat in our section and they didn't get drinks either... so in the pause we got out and went to the Polé Polé festival a little further on. During the Gentse Feesten you can't go anywhere in the city without hearing music of all kinds. Polé Polé is more 'world music', the band we heard played reggae.

Oh, and we went in little boats on the Leie, the river that flows through Gent. I even drank my very first Duvel! (That's beer... I hate beer... but it was free so I tried it. Was ok.)

I rested for the entire weekend. I even had the day to myself on Sunday because Tom was going to Tomorrowland, the biggest outdoor dancefestival in Belgium. I watched tons of movies lol... 'Mean Girls', 'Into the Wild', 'Beyond Borders', pieces of X-men 3 and 'Grease 2'... girl day for me :)

Hope everyone has a nice week!

Rock Zottegem?

Jul. 5th, 2009 | 11:47 am
mood: happy happy

Hey, nothing too exciting happened to me this week. Except on Friday, when I found out Apocalyptica is coming to Belgium! Next Friday! So I was panicking a bit that I didn't find out sooner and how I was going to arrange everything, because of course I want to go.
I got tickets... not even that expensive at all... but it's on Friday, which means I have to take a day of vacation. Which I still need to get because I couldn't ask Friday. (Keeps fingers crossed for Monday) If I ask nicely I hope to get it.

Tom is coming with me! lol :D First time ever he goes with me to a concert so I hope he'll have a good enough time to repeat it afterwards. But he likes Apocalyptica, so I have good hopes.

Yesterday we went shopping... didn't buy that much except a new Wii tennis game and the dvd collection of 'Roar', first ever series where Heath Ledger has the lead role. I loved it when I was young and only 8 episodes were ever aired. I had seen them all and I'm so happy it's out on dvd now. It's a pity that always has to happen after the star of the series dies... they probably thought they couldn't make a sale otherwise.

The Wii game was something else. We got home and I unpacked it, to discover there was no game in the package!!!! So back in the car straight to the store. Apparently I wasn't the first that day and they gave me the game without any troubles. I gave them the advice to check the other boxes because I think in the next days they're going to get a lot of miffed customers.

Today mum and dad are coming over, my dad's birthday is tomorrow. I bought him a radio with USB connection :) I'm uploading a usbstick now with all of the songs he likes so that he doesn't run out. He's very curious and has grilled my mum the entire week lol.

And it's the big weekend here in town with carnival, shops open and all... fireworks tomorrow. So ehm... yeah, nothing exciting ever happens here lol :D

Amusement parks

Jun. 28th, 2009 | 07:07 pm
mood: tired tired

It was about 5 to 10 years ago that I went to one. We got a 'present' from our telephone company for their client day. The entrance fee for the park is normally over 30 euro's for one person and we only had to pay 12, plus parking was free. On top of that, which was one of the reasons why we wanted to go, it was very closeby for us.

Tom has had a few health issues last week, teeth and throat were playing up. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to go because he wouldn't be up for it. The antibiotics in his system wre doing their job, but in the mean time you mostly feel bad because of them as well. I bought icecream, made chocolate and bought yoghurt, so that he wouldn't hurt so much eating.

His tootache was gone by Friday, but then his throat played up. He managed to go with me to the amusement park and we ended up having a great time. The weather was very nice and of course there were a whole lot of people, but the waiting for the rides was okay. Half an hour or so, it was doable.

We had a lot of fun, ate greasy yummy food and went on a lot of rides. A few with water where we got wet which was nice in the sun, the ferrace wheel, roller coasters, the whole lot. Since it was the client day of the telephone company, the park was open until 10 pm. We finally went home at 8.30 pm, with a goodie bag :)

We'll definitely do it again!

Today we went to my parents for a barbecue. Since we don't have a balcony ourselves it's nice to be able to sit outside once in a while. We got a lot of vegetables (homegrown) to put in our freezer. So I spent the last two hours with cleaning and cutting up vegetables... and now I'm resting up for the coming week.

What a weekend...

Mar. 2nd, 2009 | 08:18 pm
mood: tired tired

I finally found some time to type something up on here. First of all I want to apologise for the people who are waiting for an update on 'The New World'. It will take some time before it will be ready... I lack the time on weekdays and on weekends these days.

'Edward Scissorhands' last week was really beautiful. We had seats on the second row and for a dance show that was fantastic. It wasn't as dark as the movie, with lots of humour in it, but with great costumes and decors. They didn't follow the whole of the story, but some of the small scenes were exact.

This weekend was even more busy than the week before. Saturday we went to the shops, washed the cars and had to go to a birthday party in the evening. I got my friend 'bone chilling' ice cubes :) Ice cube shapes in the form of bones and skulls, something really for her and she was very happy with it. We played some pool but we had to get home early because...

The day after we had to go to a sort of benefit dinner for the soccer team of Tom's friend Stijn. In the afternoon we had to go to the baby shower of my friend where Tom had to take pictures. I'll post some when Tom loads them up on the computer. A lot of kids were in the room and they were all so cute! As long as they go home to their parents afterwards ;).

So yeah, busy weekend.. next weekend will be less, I hope. Tom's sister is coming over with her boyfriend to have dinner on Sunday, but we don't have to put much work into it.

Hope everyone has a nice week!

Great Valentine's day, great weekend, but over way too soon...

Feb. 16th, 2009 | 04:18 pm
mood: busy busy

That's why I want five day weekends and two day weeks. Who is with me! :-D

My weekends are more filled than my weeks anyway. In the next few weekends it's packing busy for me. Oh yeah, our sauna last Monday was amazing as well. I had never done a razul before (that really is playing with clay of the Dead Sea) but your skin is really smooth afterwards. I was utterly relaxed afterwards... of course that only lasted until about Wednesday when the stress of work got to me again. :(

We went for a special Valentin's menu on Saturday, which was absolutely lovely and I had wayyyy too much to eat. So much for all the sexiness afterwards lol ;). On Sunday it was on to the parents and back home... ate way too much again, why does everything have to taste so damn good?

Next weekend we're going to Edward Scissorhands as a ballet, so I wonder what that'll be like and to dinner with my parents. Weekend after that to a birthday party, a benefit dinner and a sort of baby shower... something for every weekend.

For Tom's birthday we're going to an 'I love the 90's' party, with music that is so wrong that it is just right to party your ass off. So that's what I'm gonna do then. I just hope I get some time to rest somewhere in between.

Have a good week everyone!

Alex, Kimberley and... Madonna!

Feb. 8th, 2009 | 12:33 pm
mood: bouncy bouncy

We went to see Alex Agnew on Friday, he is one of Flanders best stand up comedians and for us totally hilarious. It was his third show and we went for the third time in a row, it was only a 15 mins drive for us. Two hours full of comedy, Tom almost couldn't breathe anymore at the end, he was laughing so hard. :)

Yesterday we were visiting with a friends of mine, who got their girl from December 26, Kimberley. She is very beautiful, with a full head of hair and from what the mum told us, enormous hand and feet lol. She was sleeping in her crib when we were there, very quiet, but they had a lot of trouble with her beforehand. Now everything is going well however and their baby shower is coming up on March 1. We got some information on Rhodos while we were there, because they had been there two times and loved it :).

We got up very early yesterday as well, for the start of the ticket sale for Madonna. She's coming to Belgium in July, the first time ever. We called, surfed etc for an hour and we got in eventually. Today Tom found out that we accidentally have four tickets in stead of two, because we tried so many times to order them. Oh well, we'll get them sold, I'm sure.

And on to tomorrow and the sauna! Have a good week everyone!

Sneaky sneaky

Dec. 7th, 2008 | 01:17 pm
mood: cheerful cheerful

Tom and I went to Madagascar 2 on Tuesday, but we weren't supposed to go. Tom had won tickets for the avant premier of 'Burn after reading', but since he was far away for work we never thought he would make it on time. Luckily he did make it and we separately drove to the cinema, because I couldn't get home in time so I left from work.
When we got to the cinema we got our free ticket, but there was no name on it or anything and they didn't guide us to the right hall, they just let us be.
Above the doors you could see which film would be playing and when it would begin and we noticed that Madagascar 2 was starting in a few minutes... and the one we should go to in half an hour. So we snuck into the theatre!

We saw a good movie, we got home in time and we didn't have to pay for! :D

And yesterday I bought myself a new cellphone for my birthday, it's partly a gift from my parents, because they don't know what to buy for me. It's a lovely white one, a real 'womany' phone, you can even set grocery lists in it!

Plus, I bought the collector's dvd from The nightmare before christmas, hehe.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday!

Family weekend

Dec. 1st, 2008 | 02:18 pm
mood: tired tired

I haven't posted much because nothing exciting has happened. Tom has been sick again last weekend, but I didn't catch it for just this once. That didn't leave much to do, so we stayed home most of the weekend.
This weekend we had to catch up on our family visit, the grandparents and the parents. This takes a real bite of what you wanted to do in those two days, but hey, it's family. I just hope that we can spread it out a little more in the future.

I had won tickets to go to a musical, but due to a traffic jam I wasn't home in time. A real bummer because I really wanted to go. Tomorrow we might be able to go to the avant-premiere of a movie called 'burn after reading', it's with Brad Pitt. Tom won the tickets of that one.. we'll see if we'll make it.

Two more weeks until my birthday... Tom is making me curious with the present he got for me.

Rayman Rabbids

Nov. 16th, 2008 | 07:11 pm
mood: tired tired

The third Rayman Rabbids game for Wii is out and of course we had to have it... well, Tom had to have it. Boys will be boys, huh? So yesterday was a day of shopping, but I was happy. We found a new set of bedsheets and two new pillows for the couch, which we had been searching for for quite some time.

We went to the new movie 'Journey to the center of the Earth', in 3D. It was alright, nothing all too special for story or anything, but the images were great. The 3D technology does something to the movie, taking you more into the picture than before. Of course it was more of a children's movie (in my book anyway) and the girls sitting next to Tom chatted all through the movie. I hate it when that happens, it gets on my nerves.

After sauna

Nov. 4th, 2008 | 02:07 pm
location: office
mood: sleepy sleepy

Yupyup, the good times are gone again... it's working time! Well, there aren't many people present at the office today, including the boss, so it's a very relaxed atmosphere for the moment. Last week I brought a radio with me, so there is music... and internet. We get by :).

Sauna yesterday was great, very relaxing. The pain in my shoulder is as good as gone, which made me really happy. I already feared I had to go to the doctor for it. We did about five sauna's, I think, all different ones, some very dry and incredibly hot (110° really is a max for me). We closed off with something very unhealthy, we went for pizza in Pizza Hut! Tom wanted to try the Cheese'n dip pizza they have there. I must say it's a fine treat for once.

The weekend itself was okay, with loads of food, so we can pull through for the entire week without eating... errr... maybe not.

Following weekend ought to be fun too, with a friend's visit, bookfair, multimediafair with all kind of games and maybe an erotica fair.

Oh, and Tom's mum bought us a dryer, it's arriving today!

Have a good week everyone!

The army of X'ian

Oct. 12th, 2008 | 11:56 am
mood: blah blah

There is something special going on in Belgium this month. There is an exhibition about the army of the first Emperor of X'ian, the old Chinese empire. I thought it would be quite interesting to see them, but of course it is not so grand as visiting the grave itself.

At the moment there are 1500 statues of armymen excavated from the burial site and reportedly there are still about 6000 under ground! Fourteen of them have travelled to Belgium, they are really life like and unique. Not one of them has the same facial expression, it's only a shame that the colours are faded, but apparently they are investigating how to dig the statues up without losing their colour.

We haven't done much for the rest this weekend. We thought to go for a walk today, but the weather is far from what has been promised. So we're going to clean up the appartement (yay...) and perhaps for a bit of shopping in the afternoon.

Oh, and we went to the movies yesterday! Manipulation, but I think it's called Deception in the States. It's an okay movie (Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman, so always good.), but to me quite predictable. But I was entertained and that is the main objective.

Have a good week, everyone!

Star Wars

Sep. 21st, 2008 | 09:07 pm
mood: tired tired

I'm fine again, woohoo! Tom has been sick too this week, but he had it far worse than I. Fever and all, not being able to get out of bed. Actually it was a good thing that I had sick leave so that I could take care of him. He was better by the weekend.
On Friday while I was at work, he went to buy the Star Wars Wii game, where you have to fight yourself with the light sabre and all that... so he had a nice time. I did too actually. We got free food from a local radio station at work. One of the employees had won lunch for the entire company, so I had some spaghetti and fruit drinks.

Yesterday we had to go to a company party where Tom works and I have worked. I was excited to see my ex-colleagues again and they were happy to see me as well. The party itself was nothing, almost no food and not much to drink, but we had a nice time, although we didn't stay all too long.

And today it was my grandmother's birthday, that's always a good excuse for a family get together. All my cousins were there, together with my little nephew who is now a year and a half and a real hand full. But he is a good kid, playing alone, really a very good boy.
